Confused About Critical Illness vs. Disability
Insurance?
Many of our members ask us what the difference is
between Disability Insurance and Critical Illness
Protection. Here is a simple way to think about it.
Disability insurance is a form of income protection
paid out monthly, should a person become disabled
and is unable to work. Essentially, it helps to
cover monthly expenses in the same way a pay cheque
would.
In contrast, with the NEW electronic- Asset
Protection Plus (e-APP) or Teachers Life
Critical Illness Insurance protection there is
no requirement that you must be unable to work
before receiving the benefit. If you are diagnosed
with one of the covered medical impairments, you
could receive a cash benefit. A lump-sum, tax free
benefit, paid to you, that can be used however you
choose.
