Spring Greening

Spring brings with it a new sense of optimism..and in some cases puts that proverbial 'spring' in ones step as the warm sunshine turns

 the drab to green. We thought it would be an appropriate time to share with you some of the changes we've made over the past few years as we try to 'green' things all year round.

In an effort to push forward our technology, we embarked on an ambitious plan to build a platform for our members to access an electronic version of their policy in a restricted, secure website.

The member's only website for the purposes of policy access was just the beginning, further changes to improve efficiencies and become somewhat more environmentally friendly followed;

  • Premiums for a number of policies can now be paid online;

  • Forms, brochures and other important information can now be found on the website;

  • An on-line product (e-APP) was launched in late fall of 2007;

  • Annual Report 2007 - for the first time in our 69 year history the annual report was available on line.

  • New printed materials certified by the Forest Stewardship Council introduced during the winter of 2008.

Technology does not drive change - it enables change.

Spring Forward

In addition to our move to reducing our impact on the environment, we are also currently involved in the process of application for continuance under federal jurisdiction. I have alluded to this process in previous communications and I have expanded on them in a recent mailing.

Timing is everything, and in a perfect world we had hoped to include the 'approval/ratification' process of our members in the most recent annual report material. However, it was a somewhat lengthy and complicated process that involved both provincial and federal levels of approval.

Material for the member approval is in the mail and a special meeting of the membership will take place on May 21, 2008. In an effort to again 'save some trees', copies of the entire corporate by-laws and other pertinent information will be available on the members only website. I encourage all of you to look the material over and send in your proxy.
